Symbolized by their iconic tan berets, the Army Rangers are typically tasked with direct action raids and reconnaissance roles.
The ranger regiment is distinctive from Ranger qualified soldiers, who graduated from the unrelated but rigorous U.S. Army Ranger School (a leadership course). Although rangers existed in the American military prior to independence, the rangers truly came into their own during World War II.
The 1st Ranger Battalion was founded on 8 December 1941, and 5 more would be founded before the end of the war. Among their most famous actions were the assaults on Point du Hoc and Omaha Beach carried out in part by the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions on D-Day.
Today, the regiment consists of three ranger battalions and one special troops battalion that houses its headquarters, communications, and reconnaissance companies. The 75th can deploy one of its three primary battalions within 18 hours to anywhere in the world. 3.54 x 2.20 inch (9cm x 5.61 cm), 100% emb.+sub.(combo), heat cut stitched border, velcro hook & loop backing - Patch comes with Info Card / Artwork
